"Let the children come to me and do not hinder them. It is to just such as these that the kingdom of God belongs." (Mark 10:14)

Baptism is the beginning of the journey of faith for your child. Through Baptism, your child becomes part of our faith community in the Catholic church. Through your teaching example, your child will grow to become a follower of Christ and an active member of the church. This is why we have a special program to prepare parents and godparents and to help them raise their consciousness about this important responsibility.

Age of Infant Baptism

Parents should see to it that their children  are baptized within a reasonable period after birth. Arrangements for baptism should be made as soon as possible after birth, or even before birth. Once children have reached the age of reason, they would enter the Religious Education program to prepare for the sacraments of initiation, including baptism.

Pre-Baptism Instruction Class

We offer this class one evening each month in the Conference Room located in the Rectory Office (see schedule below). The class begins at 6:30 pm and ends at 8:00 pm. Please come ten minutes early to check in.

Requirements for Parents:

  • At least one parent must be a Catholic-intending that the child become a full member of the Catholic Church (baptism-eucharist-confirmation).

  • Complete  a Pre-Baptism Instruction Class, and submit all required paperwork to the Rectory Office.

Requirements for Godparents:

  • Parents may select two godparents - one male and one female - both over the age of 16. The Church, however, requires only one godparent. Parents may not serve as their child's godparent.

  • In order to serve as a godparent, one must be a fully initiated member of the Catholic church (having received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) who practices his/her faith.

  • A second godparent of the opposite sex, if chosen, may be baptized in another Christian tradition ("Christian witness").

  • The godparents must also attend the Pre-Baptism Class (or a baptism class in their own parish).

Summary of Steps for having your child baptized:

  • Obtain a Baptism Information Package at the Rectory Office. After completing the Pre-Baptism Information Form, return it to the Rectory Office and schedule a Pre-Baptism class.

  • Attend the Pre-Baptism Instruction Class (see schedule below)

  • Once you have completed the Pre-Baptism Class,  and submitted all the necessary paperwork to the Rectory Office, you may schedule your child's Baptism (see schedule below).

All the sacraments are free, the same as God's love for us. However, we ask you to help contribute to the on-going support of the Church. Your free-will offering should be given at the time of your child's Baptism.
